THE ITINERARY ARE FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES. WE CAN ALSO HELP TO ARRANGE FLIGHTS FROM JOHANNESBURG TO CAPE TOWN, GEORGE AND PORT ELIZABETH AND FROM PORT ELIZABETH TO JOHANNESBURG OR CAPE TOWN.

• At the final destination of a tour the guest/guests will be dropped off at the Airport or arrange accommodation or travel point. R&R TOURS AND TRAVEL will not be hold responsible for any instance of inquiry or cause of death on one of our tours or transfer services.
• Booking for a tour must be made 48 hours in advance.
• Similar accommodation will be provided if accommodation on ininerary are fully booked.
• R&R Tours and Travel are equiped with First Aid Qualifcation, Skilled drivers, Certified Tour Guids, and are well mannered at all times, with a smile at all times!

PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION POLICY:

PAYMENT:

• To secure your reservation, you are required to make a deposit payment with bank transfer or secure payment  link within 48 hours of making a booking.
• The outstanding balance of the tour/transfer service must be paid 30 days in advance before the tour/transfer takes place. Please note when a tour/transfer gets booked within 30 days, full payment for the service must be made to secure booking.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

If you cancel your tour with a notice period of 30 days or more before the tour or transfer, we will refund 50% of the total booking cost.

• 30 – 90 days notice – we will refund 50% of the total booking cost or deposit received.
• 30 days or less – 25% of the total paid will be refunded to the guest.
• Less than 48 hours – 0% of the total paid will be refunded to the guest.

Should you fail to take up your booking or tour, join it after departure or leave before it is complete, you will not receive any refund.

General:

Rates for children are available on request

Children 12 years and older are considered to be adults and pay the adult rate, except where specifically stated.

• All reservations are subject to ‘R&R Tours’ policy.
• Quotations are valid only for the dates specified and are subject to adjustment if the services quoted for are not available at the time of actual booking.
• Any changes to the quotation requested by the client and incurring additional costs will be charged accordingly.
• Quoted prices are subject to adjustment in the event of fluctuating costs including any costs that relate to government-imposed taxes, fuel prices, air fares, accommodation tariffs, tourism levies and/or the introduction of national, regional or local taxes or levies of whatever nature.

Insurance:

It is a condition of booking that all travellers, including any accompanying dependants or companions, are covered by fully comprehensive travel and medical insurance for the duration of their trip. This insurance should include cover for the following:

• Cancellation and curtailment of tour
• Medical expenses (Medical insurance)
• Repatriation expenses and-Damage / theft / loss of personal baggage, money and goods
• Emergency evacuation expenses

R&R Tours and Travel, its representatives, employees and agents, will accept no responsibility whatsoever for any costs or losses incurred or suffered by the traveller, traveller’s dependants or travelling companions, with regard to, but not limited to, any of the above mentioned eventualities. Travellers not covered adequate insurance may be charged directly by individual service providers for any emergency sevices required, or may find themselves in a position where they are unable to access such services.

The loss of or any damage to any property,The cancellation or curtailment of any tour,Sickness, quarantine, weather conditions, war, strikes, riots and/or any other cause of any nature whatsoever, however caused and whether as a result of negligence or otherwise.

INFORMATION & FACTS:

• South Africa has the third-highest level of biodiversity in the world, thanks to the Cape Floral Kingdom.
• The Garden Route is a 200km stretch of Southern Cape Coastline which begins at Heidelberg, some 276 kms from Cape Town, winds through many coastal towns including Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, and ends at Storms River, just 60 kms past Plett. The area is serviced by two national airports – George Airport which is 60 kms from Knysna, and Port Elizabeth Airport, just over 200 kms from Plett. Both airports offer daily flights to South Africa’s main centres – Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

The currency unit is the Rand, denoted by the symbol R, with 100 cents making up R1 (one Rand).
Foreign currency can be exchanged at local banks and Bureaux de Changes. Most major international credit cards are widely accepted. Value-added-tax (VAT) of 14% is charged on most items. Foreign visitors to South Africa can have their VAT refunded at the point of departure, if the value of the items exceeds R250.00 and they are able to produce receipts. Most tap water in South Africa is drinkable and meets international safety standards.

Over 18 000 species of vascular plants occur in South Africa, of which over 80% occur nowhere else.

Succulent Karoo (South Africa has more than a third of all the world’s succulent plants), Nama-Karoo and Fynbos (South Africa is one of the only countries which has an entire plant kingdom within its national confines – the Cape Floral Kingdom).

Fynbos occupies 5,3% of South Africa, occurring almost exclusively in the South western and southern parts of the Western Cape province.
South Africa is endowed with an incredible diversity of wildlife. Of great significance is that many of the species are endemic.

South Africa is home to: the largest land-mammal – the African elephant, the smallest mammal, the elephant shrew (which is the size of a finger tip, the tallest mammal – the giraffe, the fastest landmammal on earth – the Cheetah, the largest reptile – the leatherback turtle, the largest African antelope – the eland, the largest bird in the world – the ostrich , the largest flying bird in the world – the Kori Bustard, the largest rodent in Africa – the porcupine, the largest rhino population in Africa.

Most tourists want to see the ‘Big-five’ which is a selection of the 5 most dangerous and unfortunately, most sought after to hunt, animals Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Cape Buffalo and Leopard. These 5 magestic animals also appear on the South African banknotes.

There is also a ‘small five’ – Rhinoceros beetle, Elephant shrew, Ant lion, Buffalo weaver and leopard tortoise!

Hermanus is also home to the first Whale crier in the world! The Whale Crier’s kelp horn was first heard in August 1992.

The original name of Cape Agulhas was Cape St Brendan, named by Bartholomeu Dias, when passing the piece of coastline in 1488.

Mosselbay have the second mildest climate in the world after Hawaii.

George is the only district in South Africa where hops are grown (used in the production of beer) supplying most of South africa’s needs!

The bungy at Bloukrans bridge (216m) is the highest bungy jump in the world!
Port Elizabeth got its name from Sir Rufane Donkin, the Acting Govrner of the Cape Colony in 1820. He gave the port the name of his late wife Elizabeth. Luckilly he wasn’t an egotist or we’d all be talking about Port Rufane right now!

(1488) Bartholemeu Dias, a Portuguese explorer went ashore at Mossel Bay and today the ‘Dias Museum Complex’, houses a replical of his ship as well as many other related attractions.

Camps Bay was named after Ernst Friedrich Von Kamptz, a german sailor who married the widow of the owner of the farm ‘Ravensteyn’ during the 1700s.
The most easily identifiable landmark in Camps bay is the Rotunda, which forms part of The Bay Hotel, situated on the beachfront. The Rotunda was built in 1904 and was used for dancing, roller skating, silent movie shows etc
Thomas Bain built a road in 1887 from sea Point to Camps Bay, using convict labourers. It was named Victoria Road in honour of Queen Victoria’s jubilee in 1888.

Hout Bay has one of the busiest harbours in the Western Cape with an established tuna, snoek and crayfish industry. The harbour is home to the Hout Bay Yacht Club and several restaurants.

Chapmans Peak Drive was opened in 1922, bisecting East Fort and isolating the command post from the battery. Originally known as the ‘Hout Bay – Noorde Hoek road’, it is named after John Chapman, the Captain’s mate of an English ship, the “Consent”. He was nearly left behing at Hout bay after he had been sent to look for a safe anchorage and fresh water. The crew of the “Consent” named Hout Bay ‘Chapman’s Chance’ after this incident. Chapman’s Peak is regarded as the oldest surviving English place name in South Africa.

Simon’s Town was named after Simon van der Stel, the Dutch governor of the Cape Colony between 1677 and 1699, who surveyed the bay east of Cape Town in 1687 and earnmarked it as a safe winter harbour during the months of May to September for which it was finally proclaimed in 1741.
The town grew rapidly when it became a Royal naval Base and the home of the South Atlantic Squadron under the second British oppupation of the Cape in 1806, thanks largely to the construction of a huge man-made sandstone breakwater.

Muizenberg is considered to be the birthplace of surfing in South Africa, and has many surf schools in the village and has a fine long beach that in effect stretches all the way round the top of False bay to the Strand, a distance of over 20km.

The Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve is a 100 000 hectare UNESCO registered reserve with 1880 different plant species, 77 of which occur nowhere else on earth!
There are a number of animals in the biosphere too. Early mornings and evenenings can be rewarded with sightings of Cape clawless otters and Caracal. African Wildcat, porcupine, Steenbok, Grysbok, Rhebuck, Duiker, Red-tailed rabbit and Genet can also be spotted.

Hermanus: The seaside resort of Hermanus in Walker Bay offers the best land-based Whale Viewing in the world! A 12km long cliff path stretches from one side of the town to the other, giving whale watchers the opportunity to study these gentle giants in the coves below, sometimes as close as 20 metres away!
The whale seen most frequently in the Walker Bay area is the Southern Right Whale, but others species do make an appearance occasionally. They start arriving in May in order to calve and to mate in the shallow water. Peak time for whales in this area is October, but many can still be seen in November and even December.
Other species like the Humpback whale, Bryde’s whale and Heaviside’s dolphins can also be spotted.

Gansbaai on the shores of Walker Bay has become very famous for Great White Shark diving. This scenic coastal town is situated on a beautiful location.

The Agulhas area has several attractions, which draw tourists to its shores each year.

The nearby towns of L’Agulhas and Struisbaai offer several activities and you can expect the following places of interest:
The Southernmost tip in Africa – The official position of the tip is 34˚49’58’’ south and 20˚00’12” east. A cairn marks the tip’s exact location. It is at this longitudinal point that the Atlantic and Indian oceans officially meet.

The lighthouse at Cape Agulhas was built to aid the early explorers on their passage through the rough seas of Cape Agulhas. The building also huises a unique lighthouse museum. Remains of ancient stone fish traps used by the Khoikhoi people can be seen.

Swellendam is the halfway point between Cape Town and George and is nestled at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains. It was declared a ‘landdrost district’ or ‘magistracy’ in 1743 and is the thirdoldest town in South Africa after Cape Town and Stellenbosch. It is known as the ‘historic heart’ of the Overberg.

Worcester is the largest town, business and shopping centre of the Breede River Valley. The town was laid out in 1820 and named after the Marquis of Worcester (brother of Lord Charles Somerset).

The peaceful town of Montagu is steeped in history and is famous for its awe-inspiring rock formations, orchards, vineyards, local herbs and healing hot mineral springs.

Ladismith situated in the Little Karoo is lying at the foot of the Klein Swartberg Mountains with the majestic “Towerkop”. Legend has it that an angry witch, flying overhead, struck the 2198m peak with her wand and caused the split that we can see today!

Calitzdorp is known as the Port wine capital of South Africa. Top quality wines are produced mainly by Boplaas, De Krans, Axehill and the Calitzdorp wine cellars.

Oudtshoorn, ‘the ostrich capital of the world’ is home to the Cango caves and spectacular fauna & flora! The first known Europeans to reach Oudtshoorn wre a trading party who were guided there by a Griqua via an ancient elephant trail in 1689. The town was originally known as Veldschoendorp, but was given the name Oudtshoorn by the Magistrate of george in memory of the daughter of Baron
Pieter van Rheede van Oudtshoorn.

The Outeniqua Pass (R29), between George and Oudtshoorn was originally built as the Montagu Pass by Henry fancourt White, in the mid 1800’s & named for the colonial secretary of the Cape.

Mossel Bay was the landing spot of the first europeans to reach South African shores. In 1488 Bartolomeu Dias rounded the Cape in search of a route to the East. He landed in the Bay and traded with the local Khoikhoi peoples – one of the first contacts between Europeans and the Khoikhoi.

George is nestled below the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains and is known as the administrative capital of the southen Cape and business hub of the garden Route. The wide expanse of forests, the blend of mountains, rivers and rich farmlands in close proximity to the sweeping coastline of the Indian ocean and its glorious beaches make George a unique southern Cape town.

According to legend, a Capetonian named George Bennet bought land east of George in 1877. He was in love with a young lady who said she would only marry him if they could live in the wilderness. So he cleared the forest right up to the beach, built a house, married his love & the name wilderness stuck!
Today, Wilderness is still a popular holiday resort positioned on the Touws River estuary with long sandy beaches and the famous Wilderness Lakes nearby. There is also the Wilderness National Park with the  beautiful Kingfisher forest trail.

The name Knysna is believed to be a Khoikhoi meaning for “place of wood” or “fern leaves”.
Woodcutters, traders and farmers started coming to Knysna at the end of the 1700’s but development only really started in 1804 when George Rex acquired most of the land in the region. It has often been stated, and was firmly believed by many of his descendants, that George Rex was the son of King George III and Hannah Lightfoot.

Another historical attraction is the Millwood gold Mine. Alluvial gold was found here in 1885, which caused a rush to the area. At the height of the rush Millwood had 32 stores, 6 hotels, 3 newspapers and a circuit court. At Jubilee Creek today (the spot whre the gold was found), a tranquil and beautiful picnic area can be found with many enjoyable forest walks in the area. The Knysna Forest is the largest indigenous forest in South Africa comprising of tall and ancient trees of local and exotic species, including stinkwood, yellowwood, blackwood, ironwood, white alders and Cape chestnut. The forest is also home to small antelope, and a large varienty of birds, such as the famous Knysna Loerie. It is also home to the once great herds of Knysna Elephants. Today there are stories going around, that there are still a few wild Elephants roaming the Knysna forest!

Surrounded by the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma Mountains and forests, Plettenberg Bay is one of the most fashionable up-market holiday resort in South Africa today, but it has been fashionable’ for thousands of years! Caves at nearby keurboomstrand were inhabited for over 100 000 years by Stone Age Man and then later by ancestors of the khoikhoi. There tools, ornaments and food debris can be viewed in these caves, which are still being excaveted today. Robberg Nature Reserve is a marine reserve and national monument that sweeps out into the ocean nearby. Rocks here date back to the early Cretaceous peroid – roughly 110 million years old – and during the whale season the point is an ideal place to spot whales and dolphins. The hiking trails offer some beautiful views of the fauna and flora of the area and coastline.

The Crags is situated 20 km’s from Plettenberg Bay and has become one of the ‘must-see’ areas, with polo fields, wildlife sanctuaries, theatre, great restaurants and an abundance of arts and crafts offerings along its vibrant route!

Nature’s valley is situated 30km’s from Plettenberg Bay and is the most unspoilt of all of bitou. This little bay’s untouched indigenous trees, forest and beautiful unspoilt coastline has been preserved since the first inhabitants of early times. It is also the only town within a national park. A further 10km’s and you will find the highest single-span bridge in the world! This is where the N2 crosses the spectacular Bloukrans River which forms a natural border between the Western Cape and Eastern Cape. It is also here that one finds the highest commercially-operated bungee jump in the World! The jump is a whopping 216m drop!

The stunning Tsitsikamma National Park stretches from the Bloukrans River in the West to the Eerste River in the East. It was proclaimed in 1964 and today forms the third and final part of the Garden Route National Park. Tsitsikamma is a Khoikhoi word meaning “place of abundant or sparkling water” and the area is covered in large tracts of indigenous forest, commercial plantations and Fynbos. The beautiful indigenous forest, protected by the State, is home to centuries-old trees such as Yellowwood, Stinkwood, Hard Pear, Ironwood, Kamassi and many others. Deep river gorges cleft the plateau as they make their way down to the sea, creating spectacular waterfalls and deep kloofs. The boundry of the Tsitsikamma National Park also stretches some 5km out to sea, protecting a wonderland of inter-tidal life, reef and deep-sea fish. Dolphins play and surf in the breakers and the Southern Right whale and Humpback whale visit in season, close to shore.

• The Garden Route National Park has two rest camps, at Storms River mouth and at Natures Valley. There are many hiking trails of varying lengths and nature walks in this region.
• Jeffreys Bay: It is believed that the legendary John Whitmore, known as the ‘father of south African surfing’, discovered the Jeffrey’s Bay waves while travelling the garden route on a business trip in the 1950’s. He watched the world-famous waves roll onto the shore in awe and thus, a legend was born.

Today, these spectacualr surfings sports include “Kitchen Windows”, Surfers Point” and the famous “Super Tubes”, which is internationally acclaimed as being one of the world’s top ten surf spots. It is also host to the International billabong Pro Surfing competition every year in July.

Port Elizabeth, which forms part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, has a population of over 1.3 million and has many nicknames such as “The friendly City” or “Windy City” and stretches for 16 km along what is now called Algoa Bay. Summerstrand drive is a popular tourist area with great tourist attractions to visit in the city like, The City Hall, No. 7 Castle Hill Museum, The Donkin Reserve etc. Addo Elephant park just outside Port Elizabeth is also a big attraction.
